Biography

Armando Resendiz is the WBA super-middleweight champion of the world and the great boxing upset story of 2025. A Nayarit-born pressure fighter who came up through the PBC-aligned ranks, Resendiz had two professional losses on his record before he met Caleb Plant in an interim title eliminator in June 2025 — and won by split decision, an upset that earned The Ring's 2025 Upset of the Year.

When Terence Crawford retired as undisputed 168 champion in December 2025, the WBA elevated Resendiz from interim to full champion. His first defence is against Jaime Munguia on May 2, 2026 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as chief support to Benavidez-Ramirez.

Resendiz's style is relentless. He throws in combination, fights twelve rounds at the same pace, and has an above-average chin for the weight. He is not a one-punch knockout threat, but his stoppage wins are attritional — the kind that break fighters down over four or five rounds rather than with a single shot. If he wins on May 2, he is a pillar of the 168 division.
