Callum Walsh is one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Ireland in years. The Cork southpaw is 16-0 with 11 knockouts, a slick, heavy-handed middleweight who has been carefully built on the American scene under the watchful eye of some of the best coaching in the business.

Make no mistake, Walsh can fight. He topped Zuffa Boxing's very first show in Las Vegas in January with a wide unanimous decision, and he has shown both the boxing brain and the spite in his shots to suggest the ceiling is high. There is a touch of the old-school Irish-American fight star about the way he is being marketed, and so far he has backed up the hype.

The questions, as with any unbeaten prospect, are about levels. Walsh has yet to share a ring with a genuine top-ten middleweight, and the step up in class is the test that separates the contenders from the also-rans. But the tools — the southpaw stance, the timing, the finishing instinct — are all there.

Now he is set to headline Zuffa Boxing 10 at Dublin's 3Arena on August 8, live on Sky Sports, in what will be his first fight on Irish soil. A homecoming in front of a roaring Dublin crowd is the kind of night that can announce a fighter to a whole new audience — and Walsh has the platform to seize it.
