Bio

David “Bullet” Avanesyan is the sort of fighter British boxing learned to respect the hard way. A Russian-Armenian pressure welterweight with a granite chin and a work rate that grinds people into the canvas over the championship rounds.

Over here he is best remembered for what he did to Josh Kelly in Wembley in February 2021 — Kelly boxed beautifully for five rounds and then Avanesyan simply kept coming until the fight was stopped in the sixth. It was a brutal lesson in the difference between talent and durability.

He held the European welterweight title across multiple reigns and was a genuinely avoided man at 147 for years, before running into Terence Crawford in Omaha in December 2022.

His name resurfaced this week in Crawford's criticism of Jaron Ennis — the point being that Avanesyan had already stopped Kelly long before Ennis did. If you know, you know.
