Jose Valenzuela
El Rayo
Bio
Jose 'El Rayo' Valenzuela is a brilliant, sharp-shooting southpaw who has rebuilt himself into one of the most respected operators at 140 pounds. The Mexican-American carries a record of 15-3 with 9 knockouts, and while the numbers won't blow you away, the quality of his best nights absolutely will.
His career hit a brick wall early when Edwin De Los Santos caught him cold in 2022, stopping him inside three rounds in an upset that could have derailed a lesser man. Valenzuela did the opposite. He went back to the gym, tightened everything up, and turned himself into a genuine world-level fighter rather than just a hot prospect.
The reward came when he claimed the WBA super lightweight title, announcing himself as a champion in a division full of sharks. He boxes with a lovely jab, quick hands and a boxing brain that lets him win rounds without taking unnecessary risks — when he keeps his discipline, he is a proper handful for anyone.
Now he gets the fight he's wanted for four years: a rematch with De Los Santos to erase the one blot that still nags at him. Make no mistake, this is personal. A motivated, mature El Rayo is exactly the sort of redemption story that makes you love this sport.
