Ryan Rozicki
The Bruiser
Bio
Ryan Rozicki is exactly what his nickname says he is — a bruiser. The Canadian out of Sydney Forks, Nova Scotia is 21-1-1 with 20 knockouts, and that knockout ratio is not a typo. The man can crack with the best cruiserweights on the planet, and he has built his reputation on turning fights into violent, short affairs that rarely trouble the judges.
Since the only blemish on his record, Rozicki has gone 8-0-1 with seven stoppages, rebuilding methodically and reminding everyone that his power is a genuine equaliser against anybody. When he plants his feet and lets his hands go, he hits like a runaway lorry. One clean shot from Rozicki can change the entire complexion of a fight in a heartbeat.
The questions are about levels and finesse rather than power. Rozicki has not operated at the elite end of the division the way some of his rivals have, and there are real doubts about his footwork and his ability to handle a high-output, technically sound operator over twelve hard rounds. He is at his most dangerous early, when his power is fresh and his confidence is high.
On June 6 he travels to enemy territory to face Chris Billam-Smith in Bournemouth, live on Sky Sports, and he has spent fight week firing warning shots and promising violence. Rozicki is the away fighter and the underdog — but with that kind of power, he is never out of a fight, and an upset on the south coast would announce him on the world stage.
