Bio

Willibaldo Garcia is a rugged, awkward Mexican campaigner who proved you should never write off a late starter. He turned professional at 28 and worked his way up the hard way to become IBF super flyweight world champion, a belt he held for a year and 14 days. His record stands at 23-6-2 with 13 knockouts.

Garcia is not a fighter who beats you with flash. He beats you with strength, persistence and a willingness to drag any contest into the kind of rough, attritional trenches where his physicality counts. Tall and rangy for the division, he uses his frame to smother and maul, and he is a genuinely uncomfortable night's work for anyone at 115lbs.

He won the IBF title in 2025 and defended it for the first time against Andrew Moloney in Japan on June 6, 2026. It was a desperately close, gruelling battle — Garcia even opened a cut over Moloney's eye in a clash of heads — but the Australian edged it on the cards, and Buscará surrendered his crown by majority decision.

At 36, Garcia remains a dangerous gatekeeper-and-more at world level. A rematch with Moloney would be far from a formality, and on his day he has the strength and durability to trouble the best names the super flyweight division has to offer.
