Adam Azim — "The Assassin" — is one of the most exciting British boxing prospects of his generation. The Slough-born super-lightweight, trained by Shane McGuigan, turned over in 2022 and has since cleaned up everything BOXXER and Sky Sports could reasonably put in front of him at British and European level.

Right then — what makes Azim special isn't just the speed, though the speed is the first thing you notice. It's the patience. At twenty-three years old he already fights with the in-ring composure of someone five years his senior. He picks his shots, he doesn't waste energy, and when he sees the opening he ends fights — eleven of fourteen by stoppage, and most of those came late as he broke his man down.

Azim won the European Super Lightweight title in rapid time and has defended it convincingly. Critics will say he hasn't been in with a top-fifteen world contender yet, and that's fair. But every fighter has to take that step, and the May 30 BBC Two date against Steve Claggett is exactly that step — a man who took Teofimo Lopez twelve hard rounds.

If you know, you know — the Khan family connection (Adam is the younger brother of Hassan and Haroon Khan) means he's been around boxing his whole life. The talent comes from work, not name. Trained alongside the elite at McGuigan Boxing, sparred with everyone, and arrived at the British public's attention as a fully-formed pro rather than a prospect.

What's next? A world title shot at 140lb is the obvious target. Azim is genuinely levels above the British scene at light-welterweight. The free-to-air BBC platform is the smart move to manufacture a UK star before he gets thrown into the deep end with the likes of Shakur Stevenson or whoever holds the WBC strap by year's end.
