Bruno Tarimo
The Tanzanian Tornado
Bio
Bruno Tarimo is the Tanzanian-born, Australian-based featherweight veteran whose career has had everything but a major belt. Born in Dar es Salaam and based out of Brisbane since his teens, Tarimo turned professional in 2011 and built his name on Australian and pan-Asian cards before breaking through at world level with three big upset wins in 2019 and 2020 — Billy Dib, Joel Brunker and Nathaniel May, all at super featherweight.
What makes Tarimo a problem is the combination of a southpaw stance, a relentlessly high work rate, and granite-chinned durability that has never seen him stopped inside the distance. He's not a knockout artist — eight stoppages from 29 wins tells you he's a points fighter at heart — but his volume, his angles, and the discipline to stay calm in late rounds have earned him a string of decisions over fighters who, on paper, were considerably better resourced.
The 2025 calendar year was effectively lost to immigration uncertainty, with Tarimo unable to plan multi-fight contracts while his Australian permanent residency was being processed. With that finally settled in early 2026, manager Tony Tolj has outlined a "big 2026" featherweight comeback plan, dropping Tarimo back to his natural 126lbs after years of campaigning at 130. The target is a return to the world rankings, a regional title in the second half of the year, and a world-title eliminator inside 12 to 15 months.
At 33, Tarimo's window is narrow but real. The featherweight division in 2026 is one of the most stacked in the sport, but it's also unstable enough at the secondary belt level to give a busy, durable, well-managed veteran a path. If you know, you know — Tarimo has always been better than his record suggests.
