Make no mistake, there was a time when Jared Anderson was the most hyped young heavyweight in boxing. The Toledo, Ohio native turned pro at 20 in 2020 after a brilliant amateur career, and Top Rank gave him the full red-carpet treatment — main events on ESPN, hand-picked stoppages of credible bridge fighters, and a record that grew to 16-0 with 15 KOs before anyone really tested him. Bob Arum was telling anyone who'd listen that this was Joshua, Wilder and Fury's heir all rolled into one.

Then Martin Bakole happened. The Congolese spoiler ran through Anderson over five brutal rounds in August 2024, exposing every gap in the prospect's defence and stamina, and the dream took a body shot it's still recovering from. Anderson won't be the first young heavyweight that Bakole has wrecked, but it cost him his Top Rank spot and forced a long, painful rebuild.

The reset came in early 2026 with a move to Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions, fighting under a UK promotional banner for the first time. The plan was a brilliant Manchester debut on the Wardley vs Dubois May 9 undercard — until a torn bicep in sparring this week ended that ambition before it started. Anderson, still only 26, has time to rebuild yet again. The talent is real. The questions about chin and motor are also real. The next 12 months define the rest of his career.
