Joey Canoy is a hardened Filipino veteran finally getting the world title shot his career has been building towards. A professional since 2012, the 32-year-old southpaw owns a 25-5-2 record with 15 knockouts and is riding a 10-fight unbeaten run stretching back to 2021.

Canoy is awkward, experienced and tough — a southpaw who has seen every kind of night a small-hall and world-level career can throw at him. He carries respectable power and, crucially, the know-how that only comes from more than a decade in the paid ranks.

Like the champion he challenges, Canoy holds a win over former titlist Melvin Jerusalem, proof he belongs in this kind of company. He is not travelling to California to make up the numbers; he is coming for the belts.

On June 20 in Oceanside, Canoy challenges unified strawweight champion Oscar Collazo for the Ring, WBO and WBA titles, live on DAZN. It is the biggest night of his life, and a man with this much mileage and self-belief is always dangerous.
