Bio

Lerrone Richards is one of the most underrated technicians in British boxing. The unbeaten Londoner is a rangy, slick operator with a beautiful jab and the kind of ring IQ that frustrates punchers and turns fights into chess matches. He has been a clear level above domestic opposition for years and is now ready to announce himself on the world stage.

What sets Richards apart is his boxing brain. He controls distance superbly, picks his shots, and rarely gets dragged into the kind of firefight that gets a slick boxer hurt. At 33, he knows exactly who he is, and he has the experience to box smart over twelve rounds.

The knock on Richards is output and a lack of pop — three knockouts in seventeen wins tells its own story. Against a finisher, he cannot afford to be too cautious or too content to admire his own work from range. He has to commit and let his hands go, because banking rounds against a heavy hitter is a dangerous game.

On June 4 he travels back to Montreal to face Albert Ramirez for the WBA interim light heavyweight title, live on DAZN — the fight that was cruelly snatched away from him when Ramirez fell ill last time. This is Richards' moment, and if his discipline holds, he has the tools to box his way to a world belt.
