Mario Barrios is an American welterweight from San Antonio, Texas, a former world champion at super lightweight and welterweight, and one of the tallest men to campaign at 147.

Barrios boxes long, works behind a stiff jab and has a habit of taking fights nobody advises him to take. He held the WBC welterweight title until February 2026, when Ryan Garcia took it from him on a wide unanimous decision.

That loss was less about decline than about speed — Garcia was simply faster than anybody Barrios had shared a ring with, and there is no jab in the world that solves that on its own.

At 31 he remains a live opponent for anybody in the division, and the height and reach mean he will always be an awkward night for the smaller welterweights coming up.
