Bio

Right then. Prince Naseem Hamed is one of the most charismatic, devastating and theatrically brilliant fighters this country has ever produced. 36 wins, 31 knockouts, one defeat — and the lone defeat to Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001 was the night Naz turned up two stone heavier than himself and tried to box. Make no mistake — at his absolute best between 1995 and 2000, Naz was the cleanest finisher in world boxing under 130 pounds. He sold out arenas, he ate the corner ropes on his way to the ring, and he stopped fighters in ways nobody had ever seen before from a featherweight.

Trained from childhood by Brendan Ingle in Sheffield, Naz developed the most unorthodox stance of his generation — feet square, hands low, head moving on every angle, southpaw lead but switching. Defensively reckless. Offensively unbeatable. He won the WBO featherweight world title at 21 against Steve Robinson, knocked out Tom Johnson in eight to claim the IBF, retired Wilfredo Vazquez in seven, finished Kevin Kelley after the most dramatic round of the 1990s at Madison Square Garden. Eight years undefeated as world champion. Levels.

The Barrera loss is the only blot. Naz turned the page after one more fight in 2002 and walked away. He has been a quiet but sharp boxing voice since — his prediction track record on big heavyweight nights and his reads on technique are still listened to. The Pierce Brosnan and Sylvester Stallone biopic 'Giant' is in production for 2026. The legacy is intact, the influence is everywhere, and when Prince Naz speaks on a fight, people who know boxing properly listen.
