Bio

Right then, Neider Valdez Aguilar is a tough, durable Mexican operator out of Monterrey who built a 15-3-3 record before getting the call of his life. When Joey Canoy was pulled from a unified strawweight title shot during fight week over visa issues, Valdez stepped in on short notice to challenge Oscar Collazo for the Ring, WBA and WBO belts on June 20, 2026 in Oceanside.

Make no mistake, taking a world title fight against a pound-for-pound talent like Collazo at a few days' notice takes serious bottle, and Valdez deserves credit for stepping up when plenty of fighters would have passed. He came forward and tried to make a fight of it, but he was dropped three times and stopped inside two rounds against a champion operating on a different level.

Valdez had previously challenged for a WBA light flyweight title, so this wasn't his first taste of the big stage. He's a come-forward fighter with respectable power — better than half his knockouts suggest — but on the night the gulf in class was simply too wide. That's no shame against a fighter as good as Collazo.

At 27 there's time for Valdez to rebuild at minimumweight or light flyweight and have a proper crack at the domestic and regional scene. He's a live opponent for anyone in the lower weights, and on his night he's awkward, game and never short of effort. One to keep an eye on as he gets back to winning ways.
