Bio

Right then, let's talk about Rafael "El Divino" Espinoza. Make no mistake, this man is one of the most awkward stylistic problems in world boxing today. Mexican, six-foot-one, twenty-six wins, twenty-two knockouts, and a freak reach that has nobody in the featherweight division comfortable. Espinoza is a proper anomaly — Mexican fighters are supposed to be short, square and walking forward. He does the opposite, and it works.

Espinoza took the WBO featherweight title from Robeisy Ramirez in December 2023 in one of the upsets of the year, and he has not stopped winning since. He has the jab, the height, the southpaw-style angles despite being orthodox, and a chin that has yet to be tested by anyone with real heavyweight-of-the-division pop in their hands. Levels above most of the people he has shared a ring with.

The conversation now is whether Naoya Inoue eventually comes up to 126 to share a ring with him. That fight is the one every boxing brain on the planet wants to see — Inoue, the smaller, faster Monster, against Espinoza, the long Mexican who fights like a streetlamp with a hammer. If Inoue makes the move he has just publicly committed to, Espinoza is the test. Brilliant fighter. Avoid him at your peril.
