Bio

Alberto Puello is a tall, rangy Dominican southpaw who has spent years operating at and around world level in the super lightweight division. With a 24-1 record, he is awkward, durable and far better than his modest knockout tally suggests.

Puello does his best work behind a long, probing jab and a high guard, smothering opponents on the inside and frustrating come-forward fighters who want a tear-up. He is the kind of slick, spoiling operator that gives even elite boxers a long, uncomfortable night.

His class has carried him into world title contention more than once, and he remains a genuine danger to anyone at 140lbs. The southpaw stance and the reach make him a nightmare assignment in either corner.

Puello travelled to Sheffield for a shot at Dalton Smith's WBC title on June 6, only for the bout to be postponed after Smith was injured in training. He will be pushing hard to lock in a rebooked date and finally get his hands on a belt.
