Ben Whittaker
The Surgeon
Bio
Ben Whittaker is a proper showman — and that's part of the problem. The Wolverhampton-born light heavyweight, nicknamed 'The Surgeon', won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics behind Cuba's Arlen Lopez and turned over to Matchroom with the world expecting big things. The world is still waiting on the world title, but the work he's put in lately suggests it's coming.
Born in Bilston in June 1997, Whittaker came up through the Olympic system with serious amateur pedigree and an even more serious case of showboating. The flashiness made him a 58 million-follower social media star (most boxers would kill for those numbers) but it also got him in trouble against Liam Cameron in Riyadh in October 2024 — a fight that ended in a controversial draw after both fell through the ropes.
He sorted it out properly in the rematch. April 2025 in Birmingham, Whittaker stopped Cameron inside two rounds — a brutal, focused performance that shut a lot of mouths. He carried that form into 2026, smashing Braian Nahuel Suarez in the first round in Liverpool in April. The 'circus act' criticism is fading.
Currently ranked WBC #2 and IBF #3 at light heavyweight, Whittaker is one fight away from a world title shot. The big names in the division — Bivol, Benavidez and now British rival Joshua Buatsi — are right there. If you know, you know: when Whittaker stops messing about, he's a brilliant pure boxer with quick hands and proper feet. He needs to keep proving it.
