Bio

Right then. Edgar Berlanga is the Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican super middleweight who started his career by knocking out his first 16 opponents in the first round. Sixteen. In a row. Nobody had done that in the modern era of American boxing. Overnight he went from a Top Rank prospect to the American 168lb hope in his age group.

Then the decisions started. Then the 147-cent headbutt against Roamer Alexis Angulo. Then the nipping-at-the-ear moment against Jaime Munguia's corner. Make no mistake, Berlanga is a handful — on the mic and off it — and for a long time people chose to notice that rather than the obvious fact that he is a proper super middleweight with genuine power in both hands.

The career turned in 2024 when he got the Canelo Alvarez fight, lost on points, and learned a hard lesson at the top end of the division. That was followed by a 2025 knockout loss to Hamzah Sheeraz — a fight he was never going to win at the weight he took it at — and for a minute people wrote him off. Classic mistake. In April 2026 he signed a multi-fight deal with Zuffa Boxing, naming Chris Eubank Jr as his priority target. He is 28, he is naturally big at 168, and his best fights are in front of him if he picks them right.

On talent he is a proper level above most of the division outside the top five. If you know, you know — when Berlanga is in the right camp, his left hook to the body is one of the meanest shots at 168.
