Emmet Brennan is the Dublin super middleweight and former Irish Olympian who took his first professional defeat in front of his own people at Croke Park on 5 September 2026, stopped in the sixth round by Southampton puncher Taylor Bevan on the undercard of Katie Taylor's farewell.

Let's not beat around the bush: he lost, and he lost heavily — down twice in the third, once in the fifth and twice in the sixth before the towel came in. But he boxed neatly in the second, held his own in the fourth, and got up every single time. The doctors had a long conversation with him before the sixth and he still went out. That is a brave man.

Luke's view: at 6-1 with the one defeat coming against the most dangerous 168-pounder in Britain, Brennan's career is not over. He needs a rebuild at Irish and Celtic level and a couple of confidence-building nights in Dublin. The amateur pedigree is real; the chin was asked far too many questions far too early.
