George Chuvalo owns the single most extraordinary durability record in the history of the heavyweight division, and it is not close. Ninety-three professional fights. Not one knockdown. Nobody ever put him on the canvas.

Read that again, because the names he shared a ring with make it barely believable: Muhammad Ali twice, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ernie Terrell, Floyd Patterson. The hardest punchers of the deepest heavyweight era on earth all had their turn, and every one of them left him standing.

He was a five-time Canadian heavyweight champion and a two-time world title challenger. The lazy version of his story casts him as a human punchbag, which does him a disservice — he had a proper left hook, he could dig to the body with real spite, and sixty-four knockouts is not the record of a man who only absorbed.

The Toronto fight with Ali in March 1966 defines him. He took it on seventeen days' notice, went the full fifteen, and went out dancing that night while Ali was reportedly passing blood the next day. They met again in Vancouver in 1972 over twelve. Same points result, same immovable man.

Outside the ropes he carried losses no fighter should have to, and spent decades touring Canadian schools speaking to young people about drugs. He died on 12 September 2026, aged 89.
