Biography
Teofimo Lopez is one of the most naturally gifted Honduran-American fighters of his generation. A southpaw-beating New York-born orthodox puncher who announced himself on the world stage with a round-two KO of Richard Commey for the IBF lightweight title in 2019, Lopez then produced the defining performance of his career in October 2020 — out-boxing Vasiliy Lomachenko over twelve to become undisputed lightweight champion of the world.
The move to 140 did not start well. A shock stoppage loss to George Kambosos Jr in 2022 looked like it might derail the career entirely. To his enormous credit, Teofimo rebuilt — a career-best performance against Josh Taylor in June 2023 gave him the lineal and WBO junior-welterweight titles.
A rocky title reign followed — decision wins over Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett, a three-knockdown decision over Sandor Martin — before he stepped up to meet Shakur Stevenson at 135 in January 2026. Stevenson dominated on the scorecards. At 26, Teofimo now faces the next phase of his career with the IBF's ordering of a vacant 140 title fight against Lindolfo Delgado. Still one of the most dangerous men at the weight. Still one of the hardest to pick against on a good night.
