Bio

Jaime Munguia is the WBA super middleweight champion from Tijuana, Mexico, and one of the most exciting, high-output fighters of his generation. At 46-2 with 35 knockouts, he has been fighting at world level since his early twenties.

He won the WBA title in May 2026 by outworking his opponent over twelve rounds with sheer punch volume, which is exactly what Munguia does best. He throws a lot, he throws hard, and he never takes a backward step.

Make no mistake though, there are holes. Canelo Alvarez dropped him with a short uppercut and won a wide decision in May 2024, and later that year he was knocked out in six rounds by a heavy underdog in Tijuana before winning the rematch on points.

The WBA has now ordered him to defend against mandatory challenger Bektemir Melikuziev, a dangerous southpaw puncher, with an October 21 deadline to agree terms. It is the biggest test of his reign.
