Kieron Conway is the Northampton man who has spent the last couple of years working out what he actually is, and appears to have landed on the answer: a super middleweight.

“It was a decision that had to be made,” he said of the move. “It probably should have been made a couple of years ago.” That is an honest thing to say out loud and it usually precedes a good run.

Saturday at Co-op Live he faces Mark Jeffers in an eliminator for the British super middleweight title — winner moves into the Lonsdale belt picture. Conway has been blunt about the plan: “I'm here to win by any means necessary.”

He knows what is coming, too. He described Jeffers as rough, tough and very fit, and said he has spent nine months specifically working on stopping that from being the deciding factor. Whether it holds up over ten or twelve is the fight.
