Mark Jeffers is the definition of a fighter who needs a night. He has not boxed in a year, and not because he did not want to — he had a full camp for a May date against Kieron Conway that fell through.

That fight finally happens on Saturday at Co-op Live, an eliminator for the British super middleweight title, and Jeffers is not pretending it is anything other than the biggest opportunity of his career. “The British Title — that's one of my dreams,” he said during fight week.

He says he is in unbelievable shape after two weeks of camp in Tenerife, and he has been refreshingly direct about the plan: “Get to him, beat him up and get him out of there.” No mystery there.

A rangy, relentless, high-work-rate fighter with a year of frustration behind him is a dangerous thing to put in front of somebody. This is the fight on the card most likely to turn into a proper scrap.
