Right then, Pat Brown is the most frightening thing in British cruiserweight boxing right now, and he has only had six fights. Six fights, six knockouts. Nobody has heard the final bell with him.

Born in November 1999 and raised in Sale, Greater Manchester, Brown started at Sale West Amateur Boxing Club before joining Moss Side Fire Station in 2021 at the age of 20. He won the heavyweight title at the England Boxing National Amateur Championships that same year, which tells you how quickly it clicked, and went on to represent Great Britain at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

He signed with Matchroom and turned professional in 2025. Since then it has been a procession: six opponents, six stoppages, and the WBA International and IBF Intercontinental cruiserweight belts collected in April. At six foot three with genuine concussive power in an orthodox stance, he is exactly the kind of heavy-handed operator the division has been short of.

The obvious question is the one nobody can answer yet. What does Pat Brown look like in round nine? Nobody has taken him there. That is either the most exciting thing about him or the biggest hole in the CV, and we find out which on Saturday when he faces unbeaten English champion John Hedges for the British and Commonwealth titles at Co-op Live in his own city.

Levels is a word that gets thrown around far too easily in boxing. With Brown it might actually apply. If he still has something in the tank after round seven, he is going to be a problem for the whole division.
