Mark Magsayo is the sort of fighter Filipino boxing keeps producing and the rest of the world keeps underestimating. Magnifico won the WBC featherweight title in January 2022, taking a majority decision off Gary Russell Jr in a fight almost nobody gave him, and that night alone earns him a place in any honest history of the division.

The tools are a proper right hand and a willingness to trade that borders on reckless. When he is on, he walks people onto that shot and finishes them — nineteen stoppages in thirty-two fights tells its own story.

The problem has always been the other side of it. He is hittable, he fights in straight lines, and against boxers who move and jab he gives away rounds he cannot afford. That is exactly how Andres Cortes beat him over ten in Las Vegas on 12 September 2026, taking a unanimous decision 97-93 across the board and snapping a five-fight winning run.

At 31 and now 29-3, he is at the stage where the next fight matters more than the last one. There is still a decent night in him against the right opponent, but he cannot afford another one against a pure boxer.
