Right then, Mikaela Mayer is one of the most complete technical boxers in the sport and she has been for years. The Los Angeles fighter is 22-2 with 5 knockouts and currently holds the unified WBA and WBC super welterweight world titles, having moved up and taken belts in a third weight class.

Her background tells you everything. Mayer represented the United States at the 2016 Olympics, and that amateur pedigree is written all over how she fights. She boxes at range, she controls distance with one of the best jabs in women's boxing, and she banks rounds without ever needing to get involved in a war. It is not always the most explosive thing to watch, but it is proper boxing and it wins fights.

Make no mistake, the two losses on her record do not tell the story people assume. Both were razor close, both were against elite opposition, and both are fights she has a genuine argument she won. She has never been outclassed and she has never been stopped. That matters when you are assessing what she brings into a big night.

On August 29 she faces Chantelle Cameron in Birmingham in a three-belt super welterweight unification, headlining MVPW-06. Mayer has called it the female fight of the year and she is not far wrong. Fighting a British champion in front of a British crowd is a serious ask, but Mayer has never once picked the easy option.
