Bio

Tyrone McKenna is the Belfast southpaw welterweight and one of the most entertaining fighters these islands have produced in the last decade — a tall, rangy, all-action southpaw who has never been in a boring fight. He fell to 25-7 at Croke Park on 5 September 2026, stopped in the fourth by Limerick's Paddy Donovan after a body-shot knockdown in the second and a cut over the right eye.

Let's not beat around the bush: the losses are stacking up now against the top domestic names, and the chin that carried him through so many wars has been asked more questions than any man should have to answer. But he beat the count from a horrible uppercut to the body, made it out of the round, and was still trying to fight when the doctor stopped it. Class.

Luke's view: nobody will think less of McKenna if Croke Park is the night he steps away. He has given the sport a career of entertainment, and there is no shame in losing to a sharp, hungry Donovan on a night like that. If he goes on, it should be for the right fights and the right money, not for one more war.
