One Sleep Out, And Bivol Is Finally Back
Right then. Dmitry Bivol steps on the scales today in Yekaterinburg, and tomorrow night he goes again. UMMC Arena. WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles on the line. Michael Eifert waiting opposite him. Live on DAZN. Make no mistake — this is the proper Bivol back in the ring, and the German has been parked outside the IBF office for three years waiting for this exact day.
Last time we saw Bivol in earnest was February 2025, that brilliant rematch with Artur Beterbiev where he edged the cards to get the unified belts back. Since then he's been off, dealing with a back issue, and the trilogy talk never quite landed. So the IBF mandatory takes precedence. Fair enough.
Why Eifert Is Not Just A Tick-Over
Eifert earned this shot back in March 2023 when he outpointed Jean Pascal. Three and a bit years on the shelf since, only one six-round tune-up in 2024 — that is properly fresh, but it is also properly rusty. The classic mandatory dilemma. He is unbeaten, he is rangy, and he can punch. He is also stepping up about five levels at once.
Let's not beat around the bush — Bivol is levels above him on paper. The jab is one of the best in the sport, the footwork is brilliant, and the chin held up perfectly against Beterbiev twice. Three judges sat there for 24 rounds with Beterbiev throwing bombs and Bivol still walked out alive. Eifert is not punching harder than that.
The Weigh-In Itself
This is where you watch for two things. First, Bivol's frame after back surgery. He has been training around the issue, and the body composition tells you whether the camp has been clean or grindy. Second, Eifert's eyes. Three years of waiting, walking into the champion's backyard, in front of a Russian crowd. The presser face-off was respectful. The scales tell you more.
Card On The Night
Eleven fights on the bill at UMMC. Russian undercard top-to-bottom — Tukov-Papeschi, Shekhov-Betancourt, Lubkovich-King, Shumkov-Oliva Barreda, Zon-Garcia. DAZN starts streaming from 11am ET / 4pm BST. Main event ringwalks roughly 6.45pm BST. Plan the day accordingly.
The Prediction
Bivol UD12, and not a close one. I see him jabbing the German into a corner, picking him off on the back foot, and either snatching a knockdown in the late rounds or cruising the cards 119-108. Eifert is brave, Eifert is unbeaten, but he is in with one of the most technically brilliant boxers on the planet. The champion announces himself again. Trilogy with Beterbiev next, hopefully — if you know, you know.
