Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores is the sort of fight that would headline most other cards this year. Scotney, the WBO champion with a brilliant technical game and a chance to become the youngest British fighter — man or woman — to hold all four belts in a division, has a proper test in Flores. Flores is a class operator. This isn't a gift.
Scotney's boxing IQ is the separator. She sees shots early, she counters without ever looking rushed, and her footwork is brilliant in close quarters where Flores wants to work. If Scotney can keep the fight at distance and make Flores reach, she wins the rounds. If Flores can drag her into the phone booth, it gets messy.
It'll be messy for spells. But Scotney by decision, maybe a late stoppage if Flores starts to break up. Either way, we should be watching the birth of an undisputed British champion.
The Predictions
I'll nail my colours to the mast. Dubois by stoppage in rounds seven through nine — she catches Harper coming in, hurts her with a right hand, and Harper's corner or the referee waves it off. Scotney by unanimous decision, 98-92 on my card, with the possibility of a late stoppage if the legs go on Flores.
