Bio

Josh Wagner is a Canadian welterweight from Orangeville, Ontario, who turned professional in 2013 and has spent the better part of a decade fighting his way through the North American circuit. He's 19-2 with 10 stoppages and is the kind of opponent every promoter quietly respects — he turns up in shape, he never folds inside three rounds, and he's been in with proper names before walking away with experience and his reputation in one piece.

His most recent outing was a wide ten-round unanimous decision loss to Harlem Eubank, in a fight that confirmed exactly what Wagner is at this stage of his career — a level below the world-class welterweights, but a clean, durable, well-schooled boxer who makes you earn every round. Both his losses have come on the road and on points, and he's never been stopped as a professional.

On Saturday May 16 he co-features at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, against former WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr, on DAZN, on the same card as Keyshawn Davis against Nahir Albright. Make no mistake — this is the biggest single night of Wagner's career, and the kind of opportunity Canadian welterweights traditionally fight their way through entire careers without ever getting near.

Stylistically he's a measured pressure fighter who works behind a long jab, looks to drag opponents into the trenches in the middle rounds, and survives on conditioning and ring smarts more than power. Against Norman Jr he is, on paper, comprehensively the lesser fighter. In practice, he is exactly the kind of opponent that makes Norman work for every round on his return.
