Right then — Tyson Fury has finally confirmed it. August 1, Dublin's 3Arena, on the Pierce O'Leary vs Mark Chamberlain undercard. The opponent name lands this week. The Joshua fight is still penciled in for November. We are off.

Make no mistake — this is a brilliant choice of venue from Tyson Fury. Dublin's 3Arena, August 1, on a Frank Warren card already headlined by Pierce O'Leary's IBO super lightweight title defence against Mark Chamberlain. Tyson confirmed it himself on Tuesday, after Warren told the world the weekend before that the comeback was locked in. A British heavyweight champion picking Dublin over Manchester or London? If you know, you know — the Gypsy King's Irish travelling support will fill that 9,500-seat venue twice over.

The Opponent Drops This Week

Warren has been clear — the name lands inside the next seven days. He has already crossed off the two louder options: Andy Ruiz Jr wanted too long a camp, and Jarrell Miller's tax problems mean the visa side does not work. The shortlist now reads like a who's-who of solid second-tier heavies — Frank Sanchez is busy with the IBF mandatory road, so realistically you are looking at Dave Allen, Derek Chisora trilogy talk, or a continental name like Filip Hrgovic. My money is on Allen — safe, sellable, and Tyson can stop him inside six.

The Real Prize Is Still Joshua In November

Let's not beat around the bush. August 1 in Dublin is the warm-up. The real fight is Anthony Joshua in November, Riyadh almost certainly, and Tyson knows it. Look at the timing — AJ returns July 25 in Riyadh against Kristian Prenga. Frank Warren did not pick Dublin by accident. The 3Arena is a proper venue — the same room Pierce O'Leary stopped Maxi Hughes in to win the IBO crown back in March. Pierce sells out the room comfortably, the Fury name doubles it, the Irish boxing scene gets a marquee night, and DAZN gets a card with two genuine stories to lead with. The undercard fixtures around it will fill themselves — expect a Conlan brothers slot, possibly a Caoimhin Agyarko Irish night cameo too.

Prediction Watch

I make it Tyson Fury by stoppage inside five rounds, whoever they put in front of him. Tyson is too rangy, too smart, and too motivated to lose to anything ranked below the world top six. Then we get the only fight that matters — Fury versus Joshua, finally, properly, in Saudi at the back end of the year. If you booked a flight to Dublin off the back of Tuesday's news, you made the right call.
