Viddal Riley 'Has Nothing to Fear' Ahead of IBF Eliminator
British cruiserweight confident heading into crucial title fight.
Viddal Riley's taking on Mateusz Masternak in an IBF cruiserweight title eliminator on April 4th, and the British fighter's confidence is genuinely refreshing.
Riley's been on a journey in professional boxing. He's got legitimate talent, he's got size, and he's been working with quality teams. Now he's got a platform to prove he belongs at the highest level of his weight class.
The reality is, this is a proper fight. Masternak's not some carefully selected opponent—he's a real cruiserweight with legitimate skills. But Riley's not worried about it, and there's every reason to believe his confidence is justified.
What's interesting is Riley's already talking about fighting Jai Opetaia if he wins. Opetaia's the IBF cruiserweight champion, and that's a genuinely competitive fight between two young, ambitious fighters. But first things first—Riley's got to handle Masternak.
The thing about Riley is he's got everything you need to be a legitimate heavyweight/cruiserweight contender. He's tall, he's got good footwork, he's athletic, and he's not afraid of anyone. Those are the ingredients that make elite fighters.
If Riley wins this and then gets his shot at Opetaia, British boxing gets another potential star at a higher weight. That's positive for the sport. Right now, Riley's just focused on doing his job against Masternak and moving forward.
Confidence is important in boxing, and Riley's got it in spades. The next two months will tell us whether that confidence is well-founded or just bravado. Either way, it should be entertaining.
