Bio

Eumir Marcial is the Filipino Olympic medallist turned professional middleweight, and he has just been promoted onto the main broadcast in San Diego.

Marcial was originally scheduled to headline the non-televised undercard against local man Omar Huerta. When Jesus Ramos Jr was hospitalised and the interim WBC middleweight title fight came off the card, PBC pulled Marcial's fight up onto the DAZN main card instead. He weighed 160.6 lbs, Huerta 159.

Seven fights and four knockouts is a careful start for a fighter with his amateur pedigree, and that is deliberate. Olympic medallists who get rushed tend to get found out; the ones who are built properly tend to last.

What Marcial has is the amateur foundation — the footwork, the ring geography, the ability to think while being hit. What he still needs is professional rounds against men who are trying to take his head off for twelve rather than three.

A main-card slot in front of a proper American audience is exactly the kind of night that turns a prospect into a name. If you know, you know — this is a free upgrade he did not have to earn, and he needs to use it.
