Garner: Unbeaten And Ready To Announce Himself
Garner's 19-0 with 10 stoppages, and he's been building nicely. Handing Archie Sharp his first professional defeat back in 2024 was the night a lot of people sat up and took notice, and stopping Reece Bellotti last July only added to the momentum. He's quick, he's sharp, and he boxes with the kind of confidence you only get when you genuinely believe you belong at the top. At 28, the timing's spot on. This is his chance to announce himself on the world stage.
Magnesi: A Proper Test From Italy
Let's not beat around the bush —
Magnesi is no soft touch dragged in to make up the numbers. The Italian's 26-2 with 13 knockouts, a former IBO world champion, and he's won three on the bounce since dropping that eliminator to Masanori Rikiishi in 2024. He's durable, he's experienced, and he carries enough on his shots to make Garner think twice about standing in front of him. "Nice" by name, but there's nothing nice about what he'll be trying to do in Garner's back yard.
Where The Fight Is Won
For me, this comes down to tempo and timing. If Garner can use his hand speed and footwork to box on the front foot, picking Magnesi off and keeping him on the end of the jab, he controls the night. The danger is if he gets dragged into a tear-up and lets the Italian land those heavy single shots. Garner's levels above where he was two years ago, but a hostile, emotional hometown occasion can do funny things to a young fighter carrying the weight of expectation.
The Prediction
I'm not sitting on the fence here. The occasion lifts Garner rather than buries him. I fancy him to box clever early, take over in the middle rounds, and grind out a clear decision — maybe a late stoppage if Magnesi tires and the crowd roars him on. Garner by unanimous decision, and a proper Southampton party to follow. If you know, you know — this kid's been waiting his whole life for this, and he's not letting it slip.
